It is a specific, hospitable, hiding place for escape to the chess world ant it represents one of the central spots of chess events in our city. It is a place where the first moves are learned, first games are lost, but also the place where titles are deserved and trophies are raised. A place that reflects a friendly atmosphere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exactly this club celebrated centenary on 12th of February, 2022! \u0160SNS congratulates the Novi Sad Chess Club on its 100th birthday and wishes its members and management a successful next years!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Novi Sad Chess Club is the most successful chess club in Serbia, when the most important parameters are taken into account: tradition, continuity of existence, top results of teams and individuals, top players, famous members, organizational projects, largerly activities, contribution to chess development\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Formation of Novi Sad chess club<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The current Novi Sad Chess Club was founded on February 12, 1922, and it did not suffer the fate of the previous three attempts, because it has not stopped its activity until today. On the mentioned day, on the initiative of Jovan Rajkovi\u0107 (1872-1950), \u017darko Ognjanovi\u0107 \/ 1889-1957) and Bo\u0161ko Me\u0161terovi\u0107 (1890-1960), a \"session for the constitution of the club\" was held. The handwritten original record, which is kept in the archives of the club, state that the gathering was held in the hall of the hotel \"Carica Jelisaveta\" (today the hotel \"Vojvodina\"), that over 40 chess fans were present, that J.Rajkovi\u0107 was elected the first president and that rules of club (statute) was created and other decisions were made. Immediately after its founding, active chess life was started, so Novi Sad, along with Zagreb and Ljubljana, and later Belgrade, became the chess center of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During its long history, Novi Sad chess club has been host for many world chess players, and some of them have become honorable members of the club. These are all famous chess names, and among them are five world champions: Alexander Alekhine (1931), Maja Chiburdanidze (1986), Mikhail Talj (1990), Anatoly Karpov (2005) and Boris Spasky (2006).
