His whole life was devoted to chess. Perhaps he realized that this was his destiny when, at the age of 17, he defeated four of the nine Grandmasters in a closed tournament at the Moscow Championship. He became an international master in 1988 and a grandmaster in 1990. In his career, he defeated two legends such as Bronstein and Talj, and also fought Carlsen, the current world champion.<br>Italy was his second homeland, and he was also a frequent guest of Novi Sad, where people undoubtedly loved and respected him.
