VELJKOVIĆ WON NEW YEAR'S OPEN 2023.

The Chess Association of Novi Sad organized the New Year's Open 2023 from 9th of January to 15th in the premises of the Novi Sad Chess Club. The tournament was played in nine rounds according to the FIDE variant of the Swiss matching system. Time control: 60 minutes per player + 30 seconds per each move played until the end of the game and was rated by FIDE.

55 players from 8 countries participated in the tournament, of which 4 were women, while the number of youth was close to 20! Fourteen players with a recognized FIDE title, of which 2 were grandmasters. The judge of the tournament was FM Željko Medar.

The prize pool was distributed as follows. Regular awards, first place
40,000 dinars, II - 30,000, III - 20,000, IV - 10,000, V - VIII 5,000 dinars. Special award for
the best unrewarded player under 1800, 1700, 1600, 1500 rating points - an hour for each category.
When sharing places, prizes are not shared, but are paid according to predetermined criteria.

First place with great 7 points from 9 rounds won Vojislav Veljkovic, the second place with 6.5/9 and the best additional criteria was GM Stefan Djuricand the third place, also with 6.5/9 CM Mushini Ajay.
