A TRADITIONAL "SCHOOL IN SCHOOL" TOURNAMENT HELD IN NOVI SAD
A record 197 participants!
Organized by the "Dnevnik" Chess Club, with the technical support of the "Capablanca 1992" Children's Chess Club and in cooperation with the Novi Sad Chess Association and the Novi Sad Chess Club, the 26th "Chess in Schools" children's tournament was held in Novi Sad.
The competition was held at the "Nikola Tesla" Elementary School, and gathered a record 197 participants from all over Vojvodina, Belgrade and the region. In addition to the mass, the tournament was also extremely high-quality, because the most talented children from well-known chess schools from Pancevo, Subotica, Sombor and Apatin, then Čurug, Aradac, Bačka Palanka, Belgrade, Batajnica...
The tournament was held under the auspices of the Administration for Sports and Youth of Novi Sad, and was supported by
Chess Association of Vojvodina. The tournament was attended by the director of the school Igor Milićević, the famous athlete Pavle Bajčetić, the president of the Novi Sad Chess Club Krasoje Notaroš, and after the welcome speech by Željko Medar, the creator of the tournament in 1990, the president of the Chess Association of Novi Sad Svetlana Stojadinov addressed the participants. The main referee of the tournament, Miodrag Stanković, explained the rules, and the tournament was opened by Slobodan Jakovljević, president of ŠK Dnevnik.
School teacher Jasmina Cvijan made sure that everything went smoothly. As always, BB Minakwa helped.
The prestige of the tournament is perhaps best explained by the fact that children who no longer play in children's tournaments participated in it, such as Nikola Leskovac and Ognjen Ćuzović, participants in the senior final tournament of the 90th championship of Novi Sad, which is ongoing.
In the oldest competition (grades 5-8) it was particularly tense, because Ćuzović after the victory over
Leskovac easily entered a duel with the youngest participant in the group, Leonid Ivanovic, and lost. According to his age, Leonid could play in the youngest group (he is in the first grade) and before the end of the round he led the tournament, and then Leskovac beat him and thus won the winner's cup. And the three-time consecutive champion of Vojvodina in the lower categories, Konstantin Mandraš, decided to try out in the older group instead of being the main favorite in the lower category, but he was "only" eighth.
In the older group of girls, Emilija Vugdalić from Novi Sad won, who, thanks to the victory in the mutual duel, also left behind Teodora Jauković from Novi Sad. The third was Milica Amidžić from Pancevo.
In the younger group of boys, Andrej Dobričan from Pancevo won, Miloš Ševo from Čurug was second, and Mihajlo Stojanović, Gavrilo Milanović and Mihajlo Bilić shared the third place.
In the case of younger girls, Nora Jocić from Pancevo won ahead of Milena Babić from Čurug and Aria Ratković from Novi Sad.
In the youngest group, first graders and preschoolers (girls and boys together) played, and Aleksandr Klekovkin from Russia, living in Belgrade, won with all seven victories. Second was Andrej Brajić from Backa Palanka, and third was Stefan Predarski from Novi Sad. Helena Vujasić was the most successful girl.
